THE SACRIFICE

I carefully plucked the butterfly wings
And inserted it into the pepper grinder
Quick, measured, watched flicks of the wrist
And out poured cheerfully
Beautiful, tender, fly-away colour.

Dots of ground fragility
Floating slowly down
Refusing to rebel mid-air
Muting screams to be saved.

If there was a breeze
I would have lost it all
But nothing moved
Except for the specks of slight dazzle.

They tried to flirt
With dust, grime and sadness
Nobody got fooled
They were already wedded to a smile.

The bugs scuttled away
Perhaps, smelling half a death
And when the hues finally touched the brown
Happiness returned, preening in rainbow wings.

SEPIA TRAINS

I don’t carry photographs
Of me, in my head
Though when I see an old one
I wonder who she is.

Happier, kinder, funnier, prettier
She looks like someone I want to be
Forgetting so easily
That she was who I am.

I don’t have the energy
To visit her history
Or tell that shiny, new future she sees
It won’t be.

She looks at me
Bright and chirpy
Unaware, how brittle she is
And her garish happiness
Will crash
Splinters, mocking, sneering
Every single smile her soul throws-up
But she doesn’t know that,
Yet.

Lucky bitch.

CRAWLING UP YOUR ARM

I’m a brown feller whose feelings are true
You can shoot me, but I love to snack on glue
Newspapers are yum, stale food rocks
I eat when I want, smash the clocks.

CH:
I’m ugly and squishable
Hawai slippers find me kissable
I chew and dribble, roam and soar
The world’s mah fridge, I’m an eye sore
Oh ..oh ..oh … I’m an eye sore

I ooze and drool, but I’m no fool
The dino died, I never cried
I ate him later, when things got rough
His meat was smelly tho never tough.

People find me ree-pulsive
But honey, I just have lurrve to give
They don’t see it in my beady eyes
All I hear are their squealing cries

I’m ugly and squishable
Hawai slippers find me kissable
I chew and dribble, roam and soar
The world’s mah fridge, I’m an eye sore
Oh ..oh ..oh … I’m an eye sore

I like to creep, I like to crawl
Sometimes I take a walk with my doll
She loves me, she really does
She kisses me without a fuss.

Years from now, you’ll race with death
I’ll laugh so much, I’ll be out-of-breath
Your mortal appendages will die and rot
But you know whaaat?
I’m a roach, I’ll still look hot.

I’m ugly and squishable
Hawai slippers find me kissable
I chew and dribble, roam and soar
The world’s mah fridge, I’m an eye sore
Oh ..oh ..oh … I’m an eye sore

For J, the polar bear, who asked for this song. I hope you like it.

LAND AHOY

I fell in love with your shoulders
It had no view point
You worshipped my knees
It didn’t read the news.

Your toes charmed me
By not knowing a single joke
You found all the depth you need
In my belly button, partly open.

You cupped inspiration in my hipbone
And I sought balance in the nape of your neck
The turn of my wrist was insight enough
The twist of your back caught my breath.

Our torsos did compatibility tests
While our shins slow danced
And fingers ran rampantly
Mauling crevices, corners, eye-shutters.

From my ears you licked away traces of words
My tongue cleansed your mouth of alphabets
Silently we surveyed, your skin and mine
Satiated and hungry, again and again.

THE PARTY

Chitter-chatter conversation clattering
Folding in thoughts, my ears tune out
As if, listening to elevator music
This humanity I know
Spills word after unstoppable word
Endless, flapping, moving mouths
Hurtling, laughing, stumbling wrecks
Hiding behind their tongues
And fighting for veils of normalcy.
